A 28-year-old man known for his talent on a football field and for his kind and outgoing personality was killed in an accident involving his motorcycle on a Florida road. Alex Collins was a top-notch running back who played for NFL teams such as the Seahawks and Ravens. Now, his former teammates, coaches, family members and community are mourning his loss after the horrific collision.
Collins was headed east when a westbound vehicle made a turn and collided with his motorcycle. Police say the accident occurred at approximately 10 p.m. and the woman driving the vehicle that collided with the motorcycle remained on-site and cooperated in their investigation. Sadly, the former NFL star was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fatal accidents common intersections
In Florida and throughout the country, intersections are some of the most dangerous sections of the roadway. From drivers who fail to stop at traffic signals to those who speed or make improper turns, there is often danger lurking when two roads intersect. Even if a motorcyclist or other driver is cautious and alert, a split second’s worth of driver negligence is all it takes to cause a collision.
Anyone recovering from a motor vehicle collision in Florida can seek restitution if evidence suggests that another driver’s negligence was responsible for the incident. When a court awards compensation for damages, a recovering victim can use the monies to help alleviate financial strain associated with the incident, such as car repairs or medical bills, or making ends meet at home considering lost wages from work. An experienced personal injury attorney can provide much-needed guidance and support throughout the litigation process.
