Florida is a popular state for motorcyclists, and rightfully so. The year-round warm climate here is perfect for motorcycle riding. Motorcycles are a fun way to get around and are usually more economical than owning a passenger vehicle. However, motorcyclists are subjected to unique risks that are not present for those in passenger vehicles. Motorcycles have a smaller profile than most vehicles, so they can be more difficult for other drivers to spot.
Deadly crash
Recently in Hillsborough County, a collision between a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle claimed the life of a man. The accident happened around 9:20 p.m. at the intersection of Montague Street and Hillsborough Avenue. The motorcyclist was headed west on Hillsborough Avenue while, at the same time, a sedan was traveling east on Hillsborough Avenue.
According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of the sedan attempted to turn left onto Montague Street and drove into the path of the oncoming motorcycle. Reports said the rider was thrown from the motorcycle and the motorcycle burst into flames following the impact. Tragically, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Reportedly, the driver of the sedan suffered only minor injuries.
Help in the aftermath
Motorcycles can undoubtedly be fun to ride. However, riders are exposed and minimally protected, so they are more likely to be seriously injured or killed in an accident. Those in Florida who have suffered the loss of an immediate family member due to negligence in an accident have the right to speak with an attorney about their options for recourse. A successful wrongful death claim could result in monetary damages to cover final expenses for the victim and help ease the pain and suffering family members are likely experiencing.
