A tragedy occurred on a Florida highway before dawn on a recent Saturday. Florida Highway Patrol officers responded to a scene where, moments earlier, there had been a three-vehicle crash. One car was hit by two different vehicles. Sadly, this was a fatal collision.

A 65-year-old man driving a Kia Sportage was hit by a 30-year-old driver in a Subaru. The impact catapulted the Kia over the yellow line where it became disabled, straddled between the center and outside lanes. An approaching Jeep Wrangler slammed into the driver’s side of the Kia.

Rescuers rushed Kia driver to the hospital

Responders quickly transported the Kia driver to a local hospital. However, he did not survive his injuries. The couple riding in the Jeep were also taken to a hospital, and the passenger was listed in serious condition. The driver of the vehicle that caused the initial collision did not suffer any injuries. The crash occurred at about 4:15 a.m. and caused a partial closure of the roadway throughout the morning.

Support for families who are navigating the aftermath of a fatal collision

Losing a loved one in a Florida car accident is a devastating and life-changing experience. State law allows an immediate family member to file a wrongful death claim in civil court to seek compensation for damages. This is because the person who died would have been able to file a claim if he or she had survived the collision. To build as strong a case as possible, it is best to consult with a personal injury attorney before proceedings.
