Bitter real estate development dispute in northwest

On Behalf of | Mar 29, 2024 | REAL ESTATE LAW - Development |

As many Florida business owners and contractors know, unexpected delays or allegations of a breach of contract can set a project back quite a bit. They can also spark serious legal problems. In an ongoing case in a northwest state, that is exactly what has occurred. A real estate development dispute is brewing between a developer and two individuals who stepped in to keep a company running after its CEO (their relative) passed away.

Two of the company’s main projects are the central focus of the dispute. Numerous subcontractors who were working on the projects have filed legal claims saying they have not been paid hundreds of thousands of dollars that are due to them. The real estate developer has also filed a lawsuit claiming that the company breached its contract and that the family members who took charge of the project in the wake of the CEO’s death have misappropriated funds.

Real estate developer is seeking millions in damages

The real estate development company filed a breach of contract claim, asking the court to order the defendants to pay $17 million from their personal assets as recovery for its losses. The man and wife team in question have adamantly denied stealing funds and say all their oversight and operations following the CEO’s death have been carried out under proper legal guidance. They have also purported that the project delays were simply caused by design issues and delays in obtaining permits.

Always seek support right away for real estate disputes

Breach of contract issues, failure to pay, failure to complete a project and many other legal matters are complex and can be difficult to resolve without experienced legal guidance. In the world of real estate development, time is money, so the longer it takes to resolve a problem, the more it can hurt the bottom line. A Florida real estate law attorney can provide much-needed support to those facing similar issues in this state.
